Center: The Universal Talisman of the Primordial Primal Spirit for the Golden Elixir of the Numinous Qi of Divine Light. 《張元明元神福光圖》。
At midday on the 27th day of Renyin Year, the 4720th year since the Yellow Emperor [the 39th year of 60-year cycle of the Chinese lunar calendar], March 19th, 2022, the Fire Dragon Perfected, Grandmaster Yuanming Zhang, sat in esoteric meditation on the Primal Spirit along the eastern shore of the Pacific Ocean, refining the inner alchemy elixir and beseeching blessings. That day, that moment in time, along the eastern shore of the Pacific Ocean was, as it happened, the Spring Segment Term of the 24 Solar Terms. It was at that auspicious moment in time that I was invited to create the “Yuanming Zhang Diagram on the Blessed Light of the Primal Spirit.”
春分時節，天地之炁莫善於和，和者，陰陽調，日夜分，而生萬物。春分生，秋分成，生之與成，必得祥瑞之精華。
Nothing surpasses the harmony of the celestial and terrestrial Vital Qi of the Spring Segment Term. Harmony is the balance of Yin and Yang, the division of day and night, and the birth of the myriad things. The Spring Segment is generative, it brings new life that the Autumn Segment will complete – the maturation of life. This is certainly an auspicious omen for the quintessential soul.

On September 9th, 1992, Grandmaster Yuanming Zhang elucidated key aspects of the unique spiritual artwork he created at a United Nations Headquarters lecture in New York:
張元明認為，凡是能夠幫助人身心與宇宙能量溝通，增強人的生命力，強化精氣神，提升人類靈性昇華的藝術，就是靈性藝術，是東方傳統根脈文化中“天人合一”智慧的具體運用與延伸。
Yuanming Zhang holds that anything that helps people physically, mentally, and emotionally commune with the vital energy of the universe, anything that increases human vitality, strengthens Rarified Essence, Vital Qi, and Divine Spirit, anything that elevates the soul of humanity to create inspiring art is spiritual art. It is the core of the Eastern tradition of root and branch culture of “heaven and humanity joining as one.” It is a specific application and extension of the Perfection of (Transcendent) Wisdom, referring to a perfected way of seeing the nature of reality.

Yuanming Zhang’s series on the Universal Talisman of the Primordial Primal Spirit for the Golden Elixir of the Numinous Qi of Divine Light is like an astronomical chart of the universe, a diagram of the inner landscape of soul for illuminating, extending, and nurturing life. This is due to its intense sense of vital dynamism. Because of this, it could be said that it is diagram of the motion of the universe. However, it is woefully inadequate to only view it in this way. For this is only the surface expression, its implications extend far beyond this. It is the umbilical cord connecting the philosophical underpinnings of the relationship between the heavens and humanity. Moreover, it is the utmost expression of the classical Eastern philosophical tradition. It contains within it meditations on the origins of the universe, the purpose of life and the value of striving, as well as fundamental understandings of the correlations heaven and humanity …

Standing in front of one of Yuanming Zhang’s works of universal energy art, observing in stillness, gazing inward in reflection, resonance, and response can evoke marvelous meditations. It can allow the heart, mind, and soul to commune with the universe. It can liberate the heart and mind to escape from the bondage of our highly materialistic and mundane world and restore our innate nature and abilities. Originally, the human heart and mind were supple and open. Suppleness of heart and mind can then and only then lead to emotional sensitivity; Openness of heart and mind can then lead to embracing all phenomena. Yet, the materialistic world changes hearts and minds and many people lose sight of their original, innate nature. Yet, true, genuine art has an impact, not merely delighting the heart and mind but also touching, transforming, and redeeming the soul. The resonance and response of the Primal Spirit, a spiritual awakening, transforms human life through its blessings.
